Mountain Mint Hydrosol - face toner

$15.00
Sold Out

Hydrosols are the product of distilling plants through steaming it in an apparatus called alembic or distill. I use an artisanal Portuguese hand-made copper still that has a 5 gal capacity, so all my hydrosols are crafted in very small batches from freshly harvested plants from our forest gardens.

Because Hydrosols contain both water soluble compounds and traces of essential oil they are gentle and don't need to be diluted to apply directly on skin. These are holistic plant extracts that are pure magic in my opinion. They make great face cleansers with antiseptic, toning and soothing properties to the skin and they are aromatic which uplift, energize or soothe your mood and energy levels. These floral waters have virtually no contra-indications and are suitable for beings of all ages and sensitivities (including babies, elders and pets).

Mountain Mint (pycnanthemum muticum) is a very invigorating and cooling mist that is great for those hot and humid summer days. I like to keep mine in the fridge at home for a super cooling effect after long hours out in the sun.

Mountain Mint contains menthol and pulegone (present in pennyroyal, spearmint and peppermint) that has traditional use as an effective bug repellent - this is a powerful chemical, and even though in a hydrosol is very diluted I don't recommend taking this one internally, specially by pregnant or nursing mothers. Using it on the skin is very safe, either as a face toner, bug repellent, deodorizing mist for body or linens. Apply in the navel to help with indigestion or on the temples to soothe mild headaches.

Hydrosol is strongly aromatic due to the plant’s high content of essential oil, for this reason I suggest you try a bit on your wrist first to see if you develop any skin reaction before applying it to your face.

Energetically, when taken internally in the form of tea, mountain mint has a warming and diaphoretic (induces sweat) properties but when used externally has a cooling and uplifting effect.

Shelf life to 12 months. Refrigerate for prolonged shelf life.
